Readiness: Contingency Operations

Description

This session explores the pharmacy’s role in the National Security Strategy’s guidance of “Contact, Blunt, Surge, and Homeland,” with specific focus on the early phases of contingency operations. Participants will explore how to improve readiness through increased understanding of the systems in place that allow the United States to rapidly project force worldwide. Systems covered include strategic initiatives such as wartime contracts, clinical forecasting, prepositioned and sustainment stockpiles/war reserve, initial unit capabilities, and overseas resupply.

At the end of this activity, participants will:

Outline the National Security Strategy’s guidance of “Contact, Blunt, Surge, and Homeland”.
Generalize the strategic level initiatives in place to prime the pharmacy supply chain.
Summarize the different medical capabilities between each service.
Describe the role of a Theater Lead Agent for Medical Materiel (TLAMM) in support of contingency operations.
Argue the need for more pharmacy leadership in the medical planning process.
