Formulary Management: Aligning Military Treatment Facilities Formularies with DoD Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee Decisions and MHS GENESIS

Description

This session provides guidance to leaders and pharmacists at Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) on several Defense Health Agency (DHA) Formulary Management topics. A brief overview of the Department of Defense (DoD) Pharmacy & Therapeutic (P&T) process and the DoD Formulary Management Tools highlights the importance and scope of DoD formulary management, including formulary tiers, Formulary Management Branch (FMB), and DoD P&T Committee responsibilities. Speakers will also discuss MHS GENESIS and the DoD Uniform Formulary at the local MTF. Important topics include optional local stock and backorder list and NIS management, OTC standardization efforts and local management, claims adjudication, Medical Necessity management, and the role of MTFs in formulary management.

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the scope of the TRICARE Pharmacy Benefit.
  2. Explain how the DoD P&T and formulary management process works in order to navigate it and aid in implementation at the local MTF.
  3. Describe tools that can be utilized to successfully move to the Uniform Formulary at the local MTF.
  4. Discuss major new formulary features and requirements of MHS GENESIS.
