Antimicrobial Stewardship in the Bureau of Prisons

Description

This session raises awareness about the importance of Antimicrobial Stewardship and offers strategies for pharmacist involvement in the optimization of antibiotics with the goal to improve patient outcomes, reduce resistance, limit adverse events, and reduce unnecessary costs.    

Pharmacist Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe basic antimicrobial stewardship principles.  
  2. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists’ involvement in antimicrobial stewardship.  
  3. Discuss strategies pharmacists can use to optimize treatment of infections and reduce adverse events associated with antibiotic use.
