Kim Dunaway, PharmD is a residency train pharmacist that works at Irwin Army Community Hospital. She is a crucial member of the inpatient pharmacy and provides discharge counseling. Proactively, Dr. Dunaway reviewed, edited, and updated over 5000 pharmaceutical line items within CHCS and Omnicell for preparation of MHS GENESIS. From July to December 2019, she selflessly volunteered to cover gaps as Pharmacy’s Medication Safety Specialist.
Dr. Dunaway is the primary inpatient pharmacist for all the Essentris, CHCS, and Omnicell coordination. She is a super-user for MHS GENESIS and Essentris CliniComp. She actively researches literature to support evidence-based medicine. She updated the database for 67 Alaris pumps to ensure standardization of infusions and minimize guardrail overrides. She educated internal and external staff on the ISMP Medication Safety Goal conversion of promethazine to mini-bag compounding and administration to move IACH into a High Reliability Organization.
