Pharmaceutical Hazardous Waste (PHW) is a complex topic in which mismanagement may result in regulatory action against your organization. RCRA and EPA regulations regarding the management of pharmaceutical hazardous waste were initially developed with an industry focus in mind. This resulted in an undue regulatory burden on pharmacies. Realizing this burden, after a lengthy public commenting period the EPA published the Final Rule for the management of pharmaceutical waste in February 2019. For many pharmacies, 40 CFR Part 266 Subpart P of the Final Rule creates a streamlined over management approach that eases the regulatory burden. This session will provide baseline knowledge to provide pharmacists and technicians the resources to ensure effective implementation of their own pharmaceutical hazardous waste management program.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the final rule changes to pharmaceutical hazardous waste management.
Determine how Subpart P over-management standards apply to the handling, movement, and management of hazardous waste in your organization.
